INOS is a medium term European RTD project with main SME involvement, aiming at facilitating the integration of IT systems to everyday environment. The provision of imaging sensory capabilities to miniaturized, portable IT systems, contributes to the overall target of ambient intelligence. Within the 6th Framework Programme, INOS contributes to the strategic objective Micro and nanosystems of IST (Information Society Technologies) and it is partially funded by the European Commission.
The overall objective of INOS is to combine innovative technologies and materials in order to provide a beyond the state of the art component. The Research focus for Micro and nano-systems is to improve the cost-efficiency, performance and functionality of micro and nano-systems and to increase the level of integration and miniaturisation allowing for improved interfacing with their surrounding and with networked services and systems. This should foster their integration into a wide range of intelligent products and applications.
INOS component will embed into a single package the necessary sensing, processing, storage, control and wireless networking subsystems, yielding a true Microsystem that supports a wide range of facilities for interfacing with its surrounding and intelligent multi-sensory functions. The INOS component will connect to authorized clients/hosts through standard wireless interfaces and will be able to deliver processed video data according to the client systems needs.
